Hard foods like nuts or hot and cold foods can break your teeth crowns veneers or bondingĀ

Chewing particularly hard foods like nuts can break your teeth.  They can also break porcelain crowns, veneers and/or bonding.  In general it is a good idea to avoid chewing all types of nuts unless they are finely ground.  It is also a good idea to break hard bread with your fingers and to also compress it with your fingers before chewing.  Raw carrots, celery and biting into apples are other foods to avoid.  Cooked carrots and/or sliced carrots, celery and apples are easier on your teeth — and your dentistry.

Hot coffee and ice cream is a popular American dessert.  The problem is that all materials expand when hot and shrink when cold.  This causes tooth structure and dental materials like porcelain crowns, veneers, bondings and fillings to expand and contract in rapid time frames.  Avoid fractures of teeth and dental materials by avoiding foods and drinks of extreme temperature differences in rapid succession.
