There is a big difference in the quality, strength and aesthetics of different brands of Dental Bonding materials and Dental Porcelains. Many American dentists also send their Dental Porcelain overseas to low-cost labs offering Crowns and Veneers of unknown chemical composition. Look to see what product brands your dentist uses and learn where your dental porcelain is made. This video on Good vs. Bad Dentistry. Part 10. Dental Materials was performed in our Cosmetic Dentistry office.
Hi this is Dr. Jeff Dorfman at The Center for Special Dentistry in New York talking about 12 ways people can differentiate between good and bad dentistry and good and bad dentists. Here we are talking about dental materials like dental bonding material or cosmetic bonding material and dental porcelain crowns as two examples. There are many different brands and qualities of dental bonding materials are no different than fabrics for clothing, so in much the same way you can understand varying thread counts in clothing, stitching, buttonholes, zippers, and how an overall garment is constructed, the same thing exists in dental bonding materials. If you are going for less expensive dentistry, you can reasonably assume you are going to be getting lesser quality brands of bonding materials. Beware of that. Separately, in dental crowns, a lot of dental porcelain crowns are no longer made in the United States. They are made in many second and third world countries at much lower costs to the dentist than American-made dental crowns. In this practice at the Center for Special Dentistry we only use dental porcelain crowns made by master ceramists in New York City because we want to know that the chemical composition of what we are putting into our patients’ mouths is healthy. The concern is if you are getting dental crowns made from anywhere else around the world as a cost-cutting measure, you really don’t know what is in them and you don’t know the long term possible negative effects to your health.
