Lower splint, periodontal splinting, with tooth resection and pontic
July 11, 2012 2:53 pmThe lower front tooth had supraerupted (grown out of the gum) because of severe periodontitis (gum disease) and exhibited complete bone loss in the x-ray (not shown). The supraerupted lower front tooth had also chipped the two upper front teeth. A fixed splint made of wire used in orthodontics and bonding material was placed behind these lower front teeth and then the top edge of this tooth was shortened to make it level with the other teeth. Then the lower half of this tooth was cut and then removed leaving the remaining half of the tooth within the splint (see x-ray). Dental bonding material was then placed between the teeth to hide the wire splint from a facial view. Finally, the broken two upper front central incisor teeth were restored with dental bonding material. Treatment time: one visit.
