When not to repair broken porcelain on a porcelain and metal fixed bridge
March 14, 2012 3:10 pmThe porcelain had fractured off the lateral tooth of a six tooth porcelain and metal fixed bridge. The patient came to our office seeking a repair. The patient described numerous recent repairs to this bridge at several dentists. His current dentist refused to repair the bridge because the teeth underneath had cavities. Another dentist agreed to fix it. The patient refused x-rays. The gums around the bridge were very inflammed. This patient was not a candidate for the 3/4 crown repair procedure shown elsewhere in this website. He returned to his current dentist. Repairing broken porcelain on a large bridge should only be undertaken if the bridge and teeth underneath are in good health.
